At Sweet Systems AB, we are committed to creating digital solutions that are accessible to everyone. This means ensuring that all individuals, regardless of ability, can benefit from and participate in the digital world. Our work on accessibility is not just a checklist, but an ongoing effort towards more inclusive digital services.
Adapting to the Accessibility Act
The European Accessibility Act (EEA), which will be enacted as Swedish law, requires us at Sweet Systems to achieve WCAG 2.2 level AA compliance by June 28, 2025. The first phase of this adaptation focuses on improving accessibility in our form response set and the form flow overview.
Our Accessibility Measures
To meet the requirements of the Accessibility Act, we have implemented several technical specifications and features, including:
- Text Alternatives: To ensure that visual content is accessible to all, we provide text alternatives for all non-text content.
- Keyboard Navigation: Our websites and form tools are fully navigable using a keyboard.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Our websites and forms are compatible with most screen readers.
- Semantic HTML: We are reworking our HTML code to ensure it is semantic and thus more accessible to all users.
- Improved CSS Templates: We are implementing new CSS templates to enhance both design and functionality.
- Calendar Module Replacement: We are replacing the calendar module for the “date range” and “date & time” question types to make them more accessible and user-friendly.
- Color Contrast and Use of Color: We have optimized color contrasts and ensured that color is not used as the sole visual cue.
- Responsiveness: Our tools and websites are now better adapted to different screen sizes and devices, ensuring that users on mobile phones and tablets have an equally good experience as those on larger screens.
- Validation and Error Messages: We have improved how error messages and validations are handled, making it easier for users to understand and address any issues they encounter while filling out forms.
Challenges and Lessons Learned
As with any major initiative, we have encountered challenges. In the first phase, our form designer will not automatically create accessible forms. To ensure your forms meet accessibility requirements, we offer guidelines and example materials to help you create accessible forms.
We have also identified that the scroll function in the matrix/list question type with a table appearance may pose some accessibility limitations. These limitations are detailed in our guidelines, allowing you to make informed choices and adjustments.
Feedback and Future Plans
We value your feedback! If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvements, please contact us via email at support@sweetsystems.se or by phone at +46 8 23 08 30. We plan to launch the accessibility-adapted version (a11y) in Q1 2025. Future plans include providing real-time feedback to form designers for creating accessibility-friendly forms and making Sweet’s “External Portal” in the CRM application more accessible.
Samarbete med partners
Our partners, Scrive and Signicat, also take the Accessibility Act very seriously. Since our products are combined for signing and/or authentication, it’s important to understand the criteria they strive to meet.
- Scrive: Aims to comply with WCAG 2.1 level AA. They use both manual and automated testing (AXE and WAVE services) to measure accessibility. Documentation describing how their digital signing/identification meets accessibility requirements is currently under development.
- Signicat: Complies with WCAG 2.1. More information is available in their accessibility statement here: Signicat Accessibility Statement.
At Sweet Systems, we are proud of our commitment to making our digital products more accessible and look forward to continuing to improve our services for all users. Please visit our previously published blog post for more detailed information: Important Information About Our Accessibility Updates.
